Employment law is a constantly changing and evolving area of the law, and any small business needs an experienced and educated attorney to help navigate this complex field. Taylor Law can handle your employment law needs from drafting employee agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and non-compete agreements to handling issues with employee discipline or separation, or any employment related litigation. Of course, this includes providing advice to cut off and minimize any exposure for employee related issues. We strive to help you protect your business with integrity while maintaining your reputation as fair business where people want to work and with whom people want to do business.

If you choose not to use Taylor Law, we still recommend consulting an attorney with employment law experience. No matter what, however, please consider the following questions when managing your business and working with employees:

  • Do you plan on hiring employees, or using independent contractors?
  • What questions do you ask your potential employees? Could any of these questions expose you to a lawsuit? Are you sure?
  • What information do you require on your employment applications?
  • What kind of screening do you do on potential employees?
  • Do you check references?
  • If the job involves driving, have you done a thorough background check on the potential employee’s driving record?
  • Do you have a former employee sign an employment agreement before he/she starts?
  • Do your employees have access to sensitive information, either about your business or about your clients? How do you safeguard that information?
  • If a client or customer has complained about one of your employees, how do you inform the employee of those complaints, and how do you document the complaints?
  • If you are considering terminating an employee for performance issues, are you keeping a clear record of those issues?
  • When terminating an employee, do you pay them for all time owed at the time you terminate them?
If you need help with any of these issues, please give us a call.
